Fire Engineering

Modern buildings and the alteration of existing buildings require to maximise safety whilst using modern construction techniques and delivering the architect's vision.

Conventional approaches to fire engineering sometimes require modifications that conflict with the original design or specification.

CWE offer services in both main elements of Fire Engineering:
1. Fire protection engineering:
The designing of fire systems such as automatic fire suppression and fire detection systems.
2. Fire safety engineering:
The design of fire strategies including location and number of stairs, design of smoke control regimes and designed structural fire protection measures.

Benefits of a Fire Engineering

There are two ways of demonstrating compliance with the Building Regulations.
One is to follow the prescriptive guidance given in codes of practice and Approved Document B and
the other is to use a fire engineering approach.

Fire Safety Engineering to BS 9999 and BS 7974
Enabling architect and developer to realise innovative designs for simple and larger complex buildings that fall outside of current prescriptive guidance, whilst maintaining or enhancing the protection of the building, the occupants and the processes carried out within.

With the use of established fire engineering techniques and the possible allowances provided by the use of BS 9999 or BS 7974, we can help address a wide range of fire safety objectives present in most project.

Using the Fire Engineering approach you can :
Increase design flexibility
Reduce costs
Tailor the building design

Benefits of fire engineering include:
Extending travel distances in buildings
Reducing and removing staircases and exit widths
Maximize useable floor space
Justifying the use of non-conventional escape routes
Allowing greater freedom of choice for materials
Justifying increased compartment sizes
Demonstrating alternative methods of achieving compartmentation
Minimising fire safety system designs, requirements and application Optimising the application of existing fire safety facilities
CWE offer a comprehensive range of fire engineering services, professional fire safety advice and services from concept design, through construction to final handover of the building.

We aid the design of buildings and structures in order to meet the complex fire legislation that is required within National Acts and at local planning requirements levels.
